De Nederlandse popmuziek bestaat 50 jaar. In 1958 werd de aftrap gegeven door de Indisch-Nederlandse Tielman Brothers met hun single Rock little baby of mine. Daarmee was een traditie geboren.
/Geschiedenis TV (een digitaal themakanaal van de publieke omroep) presenteert ter gelegenheid van dit jubileum van 26 april t/m 2 mei Beat behind the dykes, een themaweek met het beste van een halve eeuw Nederpop.
Op voorspraak van een groot aantal popkenners selecteerde /Geschiedenis TV een reeks absolute hoogtepunten uit de nationale popgeschiedenis, waaronder een optreden uit 1963 van Johnny & his Cellar Rockers (met een 17-jarige Jan Akkerman).
Te ontvangen via de digitale tv-kabel (meestal via het pluspakket) en via internet.
Dutch pop music celebrates its 50th birthday this year. In 1958 the Indian-Dutch Tielman Brothers kicked off this genre with their single Rock little baby of mine. With this fact a tradition was born.
From April 26th until May 2nd /Geschiedenis TV (/History TV, one of the digital special items channels of Dutch public TV) presents a week of specials called Beat behind the dykes, on the occasion of this jubilee.
A large number of pop authorities selected some absolute highlights from Dutch national pop history. Among those items is a performance of Johnny & his Cellar Rockers (with a 17-year-old Jan Akkerman) from 1963.
The channel can be viewed on Dutch digital tv-cable and through the internet.

New guitar :
Jan recently got a new acoustic guitar: the Saga/Gitane: Modèle "Jean" Akkerman, presented at the Frankfurter Messe on March 14th 2008. For more information, see the special Gitane-page.

In het februari-nummer van muziekkrant OOR staat een uitgebreid interview met Jan in het kader van 50 Jaar Nederpop, dat dit jaar wordt gevierd. Ook staat er een filmpje op de OOR-website waarin Jan wordt geïnterviewd tijdens het Noorderslag seminar in Groningen van 11 januari j.l.
In the Febraury edition of Dutch musicmagazine OOR there a comprehensive interview with Jan on the occasion of 50 Years of Nederpop, that is celebrated this year. There's also a movie of an interview with Jan on the OOR-website, made at the Noorderslag seminar in Groningen (NL) on January 11th.
Op donderdag 14 februari was Jan aanwezig tijdens de presentatie van het boek over Willy Deville van fotografe Patricia Steur.
Jan reikte het boek uit aan Patricia en er werden ook nog vier stukken samen gespeeld die ter plekke door Willy werden verzonnen.
Deze foto’s geven een impressie van de avond.
On Thursday, 14 February, Jan was present at the presentation of the Willy Deville picture book by Dutch photographer Patricia Steur.
Jan presented the book to Patricia and there were also four pieces played, which Willy made up on the spot.

Tour in South America 2007 :
In november 2007 staat er tour door Zuid-Amerika gepland van Jan met pianist Mike del Ferro en twee Braziliaanse musici. Meer details hierover volgen binnenkort.

Tijdens het Output Festival speelde Jan samen met honderd jonge gitaristen de compositie The Wave van Chiel Meijering in het atrium van Muziekgebouw aan 't IJ in Amsterdam. Het evenement vond plaats op zaterdag 29 september 2007.

One of the most popular Music Magazines here in Germany has published a very big interview with Jan Akkerman.
They honoured Jan Akerman as a musician and composer and who belongs to the most important Guitar Players in Europe till today!
It is not the first time, that this magazin presents Jan Akkerman so extensive.

Op donderdag 11 januari was Jan, samen met Matt Schofield te gast in het radioprogramma Studio 6 bij de NPS op de Concertzender. Het programma is hier na te luisteren (vanaf minuut 30 ongeveer, zolang het op de PO-server blijft staan uiteraard).

In December 2006 start Jan's nieuwe Nederlandse Theatertour 'Live in concert'.
